NFRC Approves New Strategic Plan Elements,
Other Business At New Member Meeting

Spring, Md. – April 18, 2005 – The National Fenestration Rating
Council (NFRC) presented to the membership at its spring member
meeting a new vision statement, mission statement, core values,
and goals that were approved by its Board of Directors after a
lengthy strategic planning process. The Board also began the process
at the meeting of approving more detailed objectives and plans
to complete its new strategic plan, including approving a full
set of more detailed objectives, in the next few months.
The new plan will provide
direction to NFRC staff and leadership for the next three to five
years and represents the combined effort of the NFRC Board, staff,
and membership. The plan was developed using a process that encouraged
review and participation by all interested parties.
“As NFRC grows in terms
of both membership and products/services offered, now is the right
time to establish a thoughtful forward-looking document to lead
us through the organization's next chapter. It was also important
to everyone working on this plan that it be open, inclusive, and
reflect different voices within the industry,” said Jim Benney,
NFRC executive director.
NFRC's new strategic plan
includes:
A new Vision
Statement : “NFRC is the recognized global leader in delivering
energy and related performance ratings and certification for fenestration
products and systems.”
A new
Mission Statement : “NFRC develops and administers comparative
energy and related rating programs that serve the public and satisfy
the needs of its private sector partners by NFRC providing fair,
accurate and credible, user-friendly information on fenestration
product performance.”
Core Values
that stress NFRC's commitment to the public interest, using
a consensus driven process to craft a balanced approach to the
work, recognizing and respecting the creative tension that comes
from diverse input, protecting and preserving the integrity of
the NFRC brand, and stressing an inclusive attitude in serving
all segments of the fenestration marketplace.
Approved overall Goals

the organization's ability to achieve its mission
To continually
evaluate and improve the existing NFRC programs
To build new
programs as needed
To maintain
a long-term global focus
During the meetings, NFRC
also:
Approved new
disclaimer language to be included on all labels. That change,
along with the new registered trademark symbol on its logo, is
to be included on all newly printed labels beginning 45 days after
publication and included on all labels no later than April 1,
2006 . The new language added to the label reads, “NFRC does not
recommend any product and does not warrant the suitability of
any product for any specific use.” This language is intended to
recognize that while NFRC ratings provide certain energy performance
values for products based on NFRC procedures, and does not endorse
or recommend specific products.
Continued
progress toward completing a window attachment (window film) rating.
Approved
NFRC 302-2004: Verification Program for Optical Spectral Data
and authorized publication following document formatting and legal
counsel review.

for the energy performance of windows, doors, curtain walls and

consumer groups, representatives from the building and code industries,
